The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks continues and HIIT exercise on stroke volume, blood brain barrier permeability (BBB) and neurological score of vistar rat brain. Methods: For this purpose, 72 vistar rats (age: 9 weeks, weight: 200±20gr) were selected. After one week of familiarization with laboratory environment, they were randomly divided into three groups consisted of: Control, Moderate continuous training (MCT) and High intensity interval training (HIIT). They did continuous and high-intensity interval training for eight-weeks. Twenty for hours after last session of training animal anesthetized and underwent of MCAO and 24 hours after surgery stroke volume BBB and neurological score evaluated. For statistical analysis of the data's, the one-way ANOVA and Wilcoxon were used.
Results: The results showed that both training methods significantly reduces infarct volume and blood-brain barrier permeability and also neurologic deficit in the exercise group compared to the control group (5/0> P).
Conclusion: Results of this study showed that both continuous and high-intensity interval training can increase brain protection against the damage caused by stroke, and reduced stroke volume and the blood-brain barrier permeability and subsequent it is reduced neurologic deficit. Thus, high intensity interval training because of protective effects against brain stroke damage and time advantage can substitute for traditional moderate continuous training.
